Q. Putting all that training together sounds like a lot of hard work. I do not want to reinvent the wheel. Is course material available from someone who has already done the hard work?
A. Yes. On 25 February, 2003 the Canadian Police College hosted a small group of people from around the world. That group uses the acronym ICTAG. Some members have agreed to share training material with agencies outside the group. You can get further information by e-mailing the Canadian Police College.

Q. Do you have any material about laboratory management? |
|
A. Yes. The current IOCE document is here. If you are seeking laboratory accreditation, you should also refer to your local accreditation documents such as the ISO base document 17025 and Forensic Laboratory Addendum, and ASCLD-Lab. |
|
Q. I have to prepare a First Responders Guide for my agency. Is there something I can use as a guide? |
|
A. Yes. For computers there is the IOCE Computer Evidence First Responders Template. For digital image and audio there is a collection of 3 documents: (1) IOCE First Responders Guidelines for Digital Images and Audio document, (2) IOCE Digital Images and Audio Practices and Procedures document and (3) IOCE Digital Images and Audio Handling Checklist document. For other electronic devices there is the IOCE Good Practices Guide for seizing Electronic Devices. |
Q. What training is available?
A. IHCFC and IOCE prepared a list of training in 1999. The document is available here. Please bear in mind this document is now outdated. IOCE, ENFSI and other organisations are working this year to produce a current list of training resources.
-----
Q. How can I pick the best training from all the courses available?
|
A. Identify the specific training needs (knowledge etc.) you are trying to satisfy. Decide whether you want the training to be specific to your local contitions (laws, court practices etc.). Now attempt to evaluate the quality of training offered by seeing how well it fulfils the recommendations of the IOCE Training document. |
